Nat West offer banking via iPhone

NatWest has launched an iPhone app allowing customers to check their account balance and manage their finances.

The RBS-owned bank’s free app, developed by mobile payments provider Monitise, taps into growing demand for more sophisticated banking services.

It lets customers perform balance enquiries, view a mini-statement, manage SMS alerts and top up prepaid mobile phones.

NatWest has also launched an SMS service which provides mini-statements to mobiles, along with the existing weekly balance alerts it currently offers.

Tim France-Massey, head of NatWest’s mobile team, said it was vital to help customers manage their finances in tougher economic times.

“Mobile phones are becoming an increasingly popular means of money management and the iPhone provides us with a cutting-edge technology platform to support our customers’ needs,” he said.

The launch is being supported by a four-week mobile ad campaign, planned by media agency MediaCom and running across mobile ad sales house 4th Screen’s network of banner ads within iPhone apps.

Zac Pinkham, agency sales director at 4th Screen, said, “Following the success of the Barclaycard Waterslide Extreme campaign, we’ve been asked to help promote the NatWest app to iPhone users.”
